So Friday continued and it was… well it was there. Here are some pictures of Flogging Molly, who look like they would be a good band to have a drink with right? I am on day two of no voice, which makes me actual day job of teaching children interesting because they all have to do my talking for me. Also, it’s very weird to be someone who is always
I love The Front Bottoms. The first time I heard Maps I was hooked, hell I spent most of that song dancing and singing very loudly between taking photos in the pit on Friday. The last time the Fronty B’s played in Chicago it was super crowded and I had a little freak out and left halfway through the set, so it was nice to watch them here and have
So I was trying to get to Riot Fest from work to see The Aquabats. Do you know how much I love The Aquabats? I bloody love The Aquabats. They are crime fighting, pizza eating, punk superheroes. Alas I only made it in time to hear the last three songs as I checked in. But I decided hey! I will shoot some photos anyway, because yo, life does not revolve
There are figs roasting in my oven. They are covered in honey and they were purchased at this fantastic grocery store called Fresh Farms yesterday morning on a not so exciting adventure I took in my car to Niles. I love grocery stores and a good one contains people from all walks of life. A good one does not contain an ethnic or international aisle because everything in it is
Mat and I headed down to the Gold Coast because I found out I could sign up for a 20% off Barnes and Noble card because I am a teacher. I am all for teacher discounts, especially at shops, I actually buy things from. I feel like our adventures have been about one of us needing to do something in an area and then just exploring the area. Gold Coast
My goal for Ramadan was to cook new things. This week I started out by making my own yogurt. My mother is a little bit of a health freak, as in she honestly thinks your diet can fix pretty much anything that is wrong with you physically and mentally. We don’t always agree on things when it comes to her health advice, for example, I was the only child in
Last year I fasted during Ramadan for the first time in over 10 years. I don’t know why I decided to do it. There was this whole mix of factors, one was that my colleagues at my old job were fasting and had all given me food to have for Iftar all month, frozen samosa, dates, spring rolls, and I was really touched by their generosity. Also, I guess something
I read this article last week about them opening the McDonald’s headquarters downtown and in the restaurant, there was a menu that was just items from around the world. Immediately I knew I had to call up Mat Stokes, fellow photographer and junk food connoisseur, to go on an adventure. This is the first photo adventure of the summer and in true Maryam fashion, I forgot to bring my camera.
On Saturday I went to Devon to buy some fancy desi clothes for a work party we’re having. I hate going to buy any sort of Indian or Pakistani outfit because, as a woman who has boobs, I always have trouble fitting anything over my chest. You would think the makers of these clothes were unaware that a) we have boobs or b) that they aren’t all below a c-cup.
I’m thinking about buying a bikini for the first time in about 14 years. The last time I wore one I was 19 years old and 110 pounds. I was living with friends and had no qualms with walking around in it when the weather was too hot. But today I found this bikini that was covered in stars and had this cool cagey top and I thought “Oh hey
