I was thinking of putting the shows in separate galleries but then realise THIS IS MY BLOG AND I CAN DO WHAT I WANT. So here you can have an insight into how my Saturday night went. It started downstairs at SubT for F**k You, Idiot, Double Feature, Drones and Post Child. I love taking photos of Post Child and F**k You, Idiot. It’s always a total joy and Mat Stokes saved me a little by lending me a lens to use (because I am still sans a 35mm 1.4). I’ve heard of Drones but never listened to them properly or seen them play live and they were GREAT. If you like straight up pop punk rock you’d probably dig them a lot, A+ dance times music.
I like when other photographers show up, it’s always nice to take photos with friends around and last night I got to meet Patrick Houdek (at last!) who is like the godfather of punk music photography in Chicago. It’s great meeting and talking to photographers you respect, especially if they have a different style to you. I always learn a bunch and it’s nice to hear how other people approach their photography and going to shows.
Since leaving all the websites I worked for in the past and trying to do something on my own I’ve felt a lot more free to do what I like. To explore and think, and to just not take photos sometimes if I don’t want to. I’ve also not been shooting any big shows, just local bands and small touring bands which is really great to use my crazy DIY kit that I have at the moment. Photography isn’t about how much money you spend on your camera and lenses, it’s about being able to frame a shot, instinctively know your settings and being able to capture an atmosphere and a moment perfectly. I’m stoked to be around people like Patrick who rock at that.
LISTEN TO SOME BANDS
ANYWAY HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS.
